I am not sure if my esc on my stampede is bad ir not. I ran a full 7 cell 4600 mah battery and when I went to shut the truck off it took off. Now as soon as I plug a battery in it goes. It is the stock xl5 but before the waterproof ones came out. So I don't know if it got to hot or wet maybe? Any help would be great. Thanks

Adjusting the throttle trim on the radio doesn't do anything? Still has steering? If that is the case then I would say the ESC is bad.

Yeah it still has steering, and the trim does nothing . I mean its full throttle as soon as I try to hook up the battery without even turning the esc on.

I wouldn't buy a stock one. I'd go with a Sidewinder, or a MMP if run 3s.

Depends, are you going to stay brushed? If so I am sure you could find a used XL-5 cheap from someone who has went brushless. I would just try to find one with lipo cutoff.
