Hello from Metamora! Empty
PostSubject: Hello from Metamora!   Hello from Metamora! EmptyFri Apr 20, 2012 1:03 am

Figured I could introduce myself real quick.

I'm Cameron, I live around the Hadley/Metamora area, anyone close? Well a little about me I guess. I've been in the hobby for quite a while, had a wide range of electric rigs, couple helis. Nothing to special really. Graduated college last year and back to living at home with the parents till I can get some of my payments under control, easier said then done. lol

Anyway, right now I'm down to 2 rigs. I just got a losi mini 8ight in a trade, been able to run it a couple time and already love it, for now it's all stock. I also have what I guess you can call a rustler still. It started as an XL1 version (plastic gears, XL1 ESC). Now well... it's not quite that anymore. Custom chassis that I'm actually looking at redoing or just getting rid of. Not sure I'm happy with it yet. Wide mod front using slash rear arms, 1/8 wheels and tires, RPM everything, Jato shocks, Vorza motor mount and a few XO-1 parts. I guess I could let a couple pix speak for themselves. But for now it's a roller, till I figure out what I want to do with it now. lol

I dont have any of the 8ight since I just got it but here is the rusty if you want to see what I'm working on.
Considering a full new carbon fiber chassis. Well see...

Well since I'm not sure if I should call it a rusty anymore, I think Jay is right, just say what was a rusty. lol

I'm considering converting it back to a rustler chassis thought. Maybe using a STRC slash LGC conversion to make it fit a 1/8 on-road body. Not to sure yet. I just dont know if I trust this chassis to with stand high speeds.

Turbo, what chassis are you using? Is it 1/7 scale so it fits the XO-1 body? Is everything else in it from the rustler? I never had a Rustler so I'm not to familiar with them. I like what you did, I'd leave it like that. Have you had it running like it is yet?

Its a custom lexan chassis I made. I guess its not a 1/7 scale since I made it fit the XO-1 front splitter, side splitters and chassis extensions, and the rear defuiser. The front end of the rustler (from the back screws on the upper deck forward are molded on. also the rear end where the transmission attaches is molded in but its turned around so its a mid motor configuration. Hope all that makes sense. lol.
But I havent had a chance to yet. Money is a little tight form dealing with my car and not being able to get a job. So its still a roller. I'm still working on some kinks and want to make it look like a finished piece when I'm done, and by my standards... I have a LOT of work ahead of me. I know I have the Vorza mount in it, but I'm thinking about an aluminum rustler trans case and doing away with the separation of motor mount and trans. But the chassis needs to be strengthened some more, thats why I'm still considering the carbon fiber plate, and possibly upper deck. I've got a few ideas, it's jsut getting the money to do them. lol

post some more pics of it. How did you make the chassis? If the X0-1 body fits it, then it should be 1/7 scale. how long is the chassis? was it hard to make?

Its just a couple sheets of lexan really. Smoothed out some areas with a dermal, everything is attached with A-B epoxy. Not to hard to make at all really. Its made to be the measurements of the XO-1, specifically the wheel base, give or take a millimeter or two. Purity easy when working with lexan really, just triple check your measurements. lol

I know it looks like hell in these but it works lol.

After all the mocking up I covered it in some plasti dip spray. Like I said thought, I'm considering converting it back, but if I can find a good sheet of carbon fiber for a decent price I may replace everything between the splitters and just to away with the rear defuiser and make my own version.

Not shooting for anything specific, just... insane putting it lightly. lol
Still gonna be a 1/8 system, but in due time. its still just RWD, should be interesting to keep in a straight line. lol
